This was my exact problem with the merge announcement

It was made way too early without anything being agreed
or discussed except 'merge on!'

I am trying to make sure that wrong decisions are not made
and time is not wasted.  All the 'flaming' is just people not
wanting to see other people waste their time.  It was the same
with the beryl fork and it is the same now.
