Off with what exactly? Only because I have a name and some tools it
still is nothing more than a (rather small) visual extension to compiz.
People should rather focus on creating good compiz-packages for the
major distributions instead of first packaging together things that only
work with compiz (which is not up-to-date in most official repos due to
all this merge-mess).
We should first re-think the new split of the communities we are
starting here. Moving away from the compiz-name should be no choice
anymore. David said that he has no problems with using "compiz *" for
the name of the community enhancements package (and that is exactly what
that "new project" is: a simple extension pack ...).
I am sure that the ignorance concerning the reasons behind the
"compiz/beryl-war" will continue forever if we not stick with compiz.
Who doesn't like compiz should leave the community and use metisse or
open his eyes and see that compiz will be the core of his desktop - no
matter what the name of that damn extension pack is.

Even though it may be simple to realize, I see absolutely no reason for
that. As long as the "compcomm"-forums are such an unsorted and unusable
chaos it would be a HUGE step back for the compiz-community. And, to be
honest, why should the compiz-community now get _replaced_ by those who
asked to _re-join_?

The problems with this is that there is no need to drop a
(good-looking, ;)) more than 6 months old forum full of valuable
information (for both - devs and users) in favor of a temporary one that
was setup only to rush things and satisfy some very few people (and
maybe a bunch of impatient, bling-addicted teenagers). Once phpbb3 is
_stable_ the compiz-community-forums will be upgraded to v3 - not
earlier, not later. All this impatience only causes useless, duplicated
effort and leads to much frustration on all sides.
No matter if you select a new name for your extension pack - the real
problems will remain. The new project has no real reason to exist as
such. The extension pack should be part of compiz - not the other way
round. I think I remember that's also what someone else said a while
ago ...
