Agreed

I think "total control of the core" is a big strong. I would say it's more 
like "final say over changes to the core", but this is essentially correct.

Exactly. We could include code that went beyond the scope of Compiz as we knew 
it and that was not part of David's vision for the core.

This is correct. At the time the core was basically David with you and a 
couple others contributing a few things. Now with the former Beryl devs 
contributing it is much more actively developed, but the intent is the same. 
The core devs don't need a forum or any of the other user oriented features. 
This is why in the definition of the divisions I suggested that the 
Compiz-Core division would have the Compiz ML and a wiki to provide a place 
for documentation and other info about the project, and that the forum and 
everything else (what we think of as the community) would become 
Compiz-Extra.

This last post reflects the same things I've been saying for months, and I 
believe this view is shared by a majority of the former Beryl team. I have to 
say Mike, it's been a long time since we've agreed on this many things. :-)
