It seems to me that you should be telling this friend to install a user
friendly distribution of linux, which has it's own properly packaged version
of compiz, plugins, and addons. Then, if they have any problems that their
distribution forums can't solve, to visit the forums at opencompositing.org
(or compiz.org, whichever one actually wins this pissing contest between
everyone).
