As far as I know he is not working on it yet, probably just thinking
about it. It might be possible to do it with metadata now.
I would contact him if I were you, I think the requirements are basically
just grouping of options in an easy way, but if you have any special
requirements then you should speak to him.
For the meantime, I think you are safe to work with a list for each
column and manually link them. When/if the group type is done is
should be easy to tie them together.
