Please stop top-quoting. It's very hard to keep track of hundreds of
e-mails if I have to scroll to the bottom and scroll up/down to get
the context of your question, which is what my last, up-side-down mail
was about.

You have to either use a console (which would be ctrl-alt-f1-6
normally), or ssh from an other machine. As you noticed, X froze,
because gdb stops the program (a window manager in this case), which
would stop it from processing events. If you choose to use a console,
you might have to use sysrq+r to be able to actually switch to the
console after gdb stops compiz for you.

And so, about ini: If you use the ini plugin, you only specify ini on
the command line (and in compiz-manager's config). You configure what
plugins you want, and the order, in
~/.compiz/options/general-allscreens.conf .

Gconf is the same, except you change the list in gconf, not a text file.

If you want to use CCS, you want to specify "ccp" as the only plugin,
then use ccs-settings to modify what plugins you want.

Hope this helps :)
